Diffpack GUI: Curve Plotting

The Diffpack GUI uses an embedded Gnuplot curve plotter to draw 2D graphs. In order to interact with the curve plot data generated by a Diffpack application, you can use the Curve Plot Browser to pick relevant data sets and produce nice graphics in the curve plot display.

Below you will find descriptions of different curve plot options that can accessed through the Diffpack GUI. These are:

Graph->General The check boxes allow you to toggle grid, border, and x/y-ticks on the curve plots shown in the graph window.
Graph->Scaling Using the sliders, you can choose the minimum and maximum x/y-values for the graph window.

The button "Update slider ranges" modifies the slider ranges relative to the current settings, while "Reset x,y" will return the slider ranges to the initial limits based on the underlying curve plot data.

Graph->Animation For time-dependent problems, a sequence of (temporal) data sets might be combined as an animation. Choose the data set in the CurvePlot Browser, and select the start and end frame numbers. You may set the animation to loop, or you can control it by the "Play", "Pause" and "Stop" buttons.
Graph->Export graph(s) These tools allow you to export Diffpack results (in CurvePlot format) to external file formats. The following formats are supported:
  • CSV (comma-separated values) - this file type can be opened directly in Excel,
  • XY - this is a plain ASCII table of x/y coordinates, one point per line.
Graph->Save image(s) These tools allow you to save the current curve plot image, either as PostScript (PS) or GIF files.

In addition to the predefined curve plot operations that can be accessed from the controls shown above, you may launch the Gnuplot command window (see below) by choosing "" from the "" menu, or by clicking the curve icon Launch the Gnuplot command window on the toolbar.
